Chapter 15 - Mile by Mile through Saxelby

Grimston Covered Way - 50 - 100 yards - North End 110m 6c - South End 110m 1c
The Covered Way follows shortly after Grimston Tunnel, is 100 yards long, and undated. It lies in the bottom of a small valley, the accumulated water making it a very wet region. As the Covered Way was not included in the original 1872 plans, it is a fair guess that a short tunnel was the only answer to the damp. Brick culverts both sides of the Covered Way were built down to the line, to drain water away from the land above. The one on the southern Down side resembles a miniature waterfall.
