Chapter 18 - Test Tracks

British Rail Test Track - Recap

The existing Up line from Old Dalby to Melton Junction was retained at first, but after the end of activity at Old Dalby, it was cut back to Holwell Junction.

A Ground Frame known as Melton Ground Frame was installed south of Asfordby Tunnel at 106m 58c. The Up line north from Melton Ground Frame was left in and connected via a point to the Holwell Siding at Holwell Junction. This section of line was known as the "Up & Down Holwell Line".

The Up line south of Melton Ground Frame to Melton Junction was retained and was known as the "Up & Down Through Siding, Melton Junction Ground Frame to Melton Ground Frame". Melton Junction Signal Box was replaced by a Ground Frame in 1973.
